This mix really started out mellow, with "Sister" and "Gazelle City" (Come on, Sunshine) being the initial inspirations. A lot of older songs kept popping up ("Tiny Dancer", "America"), but even with a consistent sound, the album was really giving me a tough time fleshing itself out, trying to find that Vaan/Penelo feel. I really like how it all finally came together, though, and I think "Galaxies" and "99 Red Balloons" really helped pull it all together. Thanks, guys! ♥

The title kind of came up with itself... "Show You the Sky" is the name of my Vaan/Penelo shrine, and I always end up coming back to that line. "99 Red Balloons" has also been incredibly inspiring for me (I think it's the second most fitting song on here), and even though "Red Kite" sounded cheesy... well, I ran it past Gogo, and she mentioned that she liked it, it was simple.

...And I realized that "simple" is a very Vaan/Penelo thing to be. So I kept it.

01. Sufjan Stevens - Sister
I adore Sufjan, and I absolutely adore this song. This song has inspired everything from my Axel physical fanlisting (STFU) to my Vaan/Penelo shrine, oddly enough. Yes, it's called "Sister". Just listen to it.

02. Elton John - Tiny Dancer
The obligatory Penelo dancer song. At least I left off "Hips Dont Lie" XD

03. Common Children - So Mysterious
When I think gorgeous, I immediately think of two bands: Chasing Furies, and Common Children. Marc Byrd ftw. This song is about his wife, Christine Glass, and makes about 235897234 references to her songs and albums, but anyway. I like it.

I dont know why this song screamed Vanelo, but it did. Hold me now, keep me safe, you're the only one~ ♥

06. Simon & Garfunkel - America
...We listen to America, Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Joel, and older stuff like that whenever we go on long drives. We played this album on the way to Missouri for Christmas, and this song just hit me so hard for Vaan & Penelo. Heh.

07. Willy DeVille - Storybook Love
The song from "The Princess Bride". ...They may not be the wildly romantic leading couple, but they do have a storybook love.

And he said, "Don't you know I love you oh so much, and lay my heart at the foot of your dress."
She said, "Don't you know that storybook loves always have a happy ending."


08. Mandy Moore - Only Hope
My first real taste of Vaan/Penelo was a video to this song. It's a Switchfoot cover, of course, from A Walk to Remember... and utterly gorgeous.

09. Tori Amos - Livin' on a Prayer
This song just screams Vaan and Penelo, and I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to work the Bon Jovi song into this album. Thankfully, I downloaded a live cover by Tori Amos by accident... and it fit perfectly.

12. Blisse - Reward
This has always been one of the most gorgeous love songs I've known, though I overplayed it quite a bit when I first heard it. It reminds me of Vaan rescuing Penelo... and stuff. ♥

13. the pillows - Gazelle City
It's a pillows song, in English! lols. I first pegged it for a Tidus/Rikku song, but it actually fits so well as a Vaan/Penelo song. aww reks ;-;

14. Nena - 99 Red Balloons
I have no idea how this song is SO incredibly Vaan/Penelo, but it is. So innocent and playful and yet all wrapped up in this huge epic tale. Heh.

15. Regina Spektor - On The Radio
Nearly everything Regina does is adorably whimsical. ♥
